Dear Elizabeth, On behalf of all the staff and volunteer reviewers, all I can say to that is "AMEN!" :) Thanks for sharing, Angie Myer
Elizabeth, Yes, having a high-functioning database like Campus Vue can save the day with automating so many of these functions. But you are right that it is so much more than that. It's so important for us to recognize that these numbers are not generated in a vacuum at the end. In order to have high completion, placement, and licensure rates, there must be a total culture of support and encouragement from the very beginning--particularly with under-served poplulations. So glad you brought that into the conversation! Thanks, Angie Myer

Best Practices for completing self study report

  • If it isn’t documented, it doesn’t exist.
  • Answer every question completely.
  • Explain yes/no answers.
  • Ask questions.  The accreditation staff is ready and eager to provide assistance if you have questions regarding the process.  Please give us a call!
  • Make the Self-Study Report user friendly.  Remember the reader has no idea of your school.
  • Date everything.  Documents used as exhibits should have dates that relate to when they were developed or occurred.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Quality, not quantity.  Be thorough, but not exhaustive.
  • Have a good reason for what you are doing.

Kimberly, It is always great to get an outside perspective on curriculum and the competencies. If the chart makes sense to a non-curriculum administrator, the school should be in great shape. One of the biggest challenge for outside reviewers (even with curriculum experience) is making sense of some Competency Charts. So often what is clear to the school culture is foreign to others. Glad to hear that yours is clear and thorough! Best, Angie Myer
Kimberly, Thank you for sharing. This standard is just about distance education, however, so translating the casual verbal and non-verbal cues that happen in-class to a virtual environment are so important. You're right--the best way to do so is emails and discussion boards. It's so vital for online students to know that the instructor is "there" with them. Best, Angie Myer

Kimberly, Work study can be a good option, but it is technically part of financial aid funding and schools must be approved to offer it. For schools without such federal approval, they cannot call it "work study." Also, we'd like to remind schools that students are not allowed to be paid to work in the clinic. Even though we want to help students as much as possible, there is only so much a school can do and remain in compliance (without crossing the lines into pay-to-attend). It sounds like a complete enrollment process that Kimberly describes is one of the… >>>

Kimberly, Thank you for sharing that clinic experience. It appears that it is a very complete learning and evaluative opportunity with both faculty and client input. How many times do students work on members of the public? Best, Angie Myer
Kimberly, I'm glad that you may have found a new idea that works for your school. I'm not sure of the prices, but I know that "basic membership" is not too much--especially compared to printing and postage. And these days it seems that people are more likely to complete an online survey than a card. The best part of online survey services like this is that they provide automatic data analysis--an amazing time saver for busy schools! Good luck! Best, Angie Myer

Mallik, I agree. In the massage field this has often not been seen as quite as important in other fields, but I believe this is changing. The challenge is for schools to develop programs/courses which deliver on the "well rounded education" and not just "extra courses." It sounds like your institution has the right idea. Thank you for sharing. Best, Angie Myer
Hi Mallik, I'm glad to see that schools have been finding this tool helpful; we use it as well for the Commission surveys and calls for comment. The data analysis is a great feature. Have you found that it increases your return rate? I know that is something that concerns schools, particularly for employers. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Best, Angie Myer Facilitator
