About me

Activity

Wenda, Each instructor decides what works best. I try to keep in mind what value and contribution to learning any activity I assign provides. Barry Westling
Sherry, Competence and confidence really go hand in hand, don't they. One can be knowlegeable in all areas but limit themselves by their delivery due to failed confidence. I believe all can be passionate, upbeat and enthusiastic, in their own way. That can help bolster confidence, and portray an authentic version of themselves. Barry Westling
Sherry, Yes, we create ourselves, and also have the sole power to make changes. If we're honest with ourselves, the results of any changes will be evident to our students. Barry Westling
Wenda, Balance is important. Too much fluff, and students learn all they need. Too much weight on 1 or 2 tests can skew knowing what the student actually learned. Like a well balanced meal -- all the needed components need to be there for a satisfying, healthy (learning) experience. Barry Westling
Michael, This sounds like a good method to recognize above and beyond work. Anything that contributes to learning is probably worthwhile. Barry Westling
Michael, Sometimes sharing or confirming grade or class performance in personal can help student better understand, and usually, this helps build trust and respect between instructor and students. Barry Westling
John, We all want feed back in our lives. I try to give information (good or less than wonderful) with a positive spin, always to inspire with hope for success (or improvement). Barry Westling
John, Right, it's a great planning tool, especially if we have little information about prior knowledge or learning defects. Barry Westling
Cory, Right. Variety and work-setting applications are always a break from the routine and make for interesting and more enjoyable classes. Barry Westling
Cory, Yes, and in my experience, a good guest speaker conjures up questions. And interestingly, students are always very bold and inquisitive about the information they've gained. Barry Westling
