ROBBIN, Accountability is a foriegn idea for some students. One suggestion would be to insert a disclaimer about PPT slides in your syllabus. Related to that might be a brief statement on the first PPT slide (and printed copies) that reflects your policy and sentiments. Barry Westling
James, Sure, and it's amazing what a bit of encouragement and advice from a trusted instructor can do to boost morale, interest, and performance, when the student feels their instructor is truly wanting to help. Barry Westling
Jeff, Absolutely! Often, I have to accept that the beginning level of the core of the class is lower that I'd prefer, and the customizing my lessons provides a challenge for me to attain my desired learning outcomes. Barry Westling
James, Right. Sometimes the pretest indicates the need for personalization. I take this as a positive, even though extra time will be required on my part. Barry Westling
Jeff, Multiple senses obviously improve learning. Simple activities such as the flip chart provide visual, tactile, and verbal senses by default. Barry Westling
Jeanne, Variety rules. And the internet and YouTube, etc. are great ways to provide pertinent (and short) segments that enhance learning. And I always create my own PPT slides in order deliver my lessons in the way I feel is most relevant. Barry Westling
Jeanne, Great idea. Never thought to use this handy tool for alternative uses such as pretesting. Barry Westling
James, Getting students to think independly, analyzing information, and making evidence-based decisions are determinants of success in the workplace. Barry Westling
Jeanne, Good ideals to set as target goals. Barry Westling
Peter, You're right, confidence in the instructor is inhanced by being organized in order to provide optimal learning experiences. And students just do better when their confidence in their instructor is high. Barry Westling
