About me

Activity

Wendy, With adequate preparation, one goal I hope for in my students is the ability to solve problems, communicate solutions, and resolve issues. These can't be taught per se, but the foundation for an approach to critical thinking certainly can. Like you say, growth can occur through guided experiences. Barry Westling
Gretchen, Great point. Distractions are abundant enough without adding to them by an instructors inattention to the (necessity) of adequate preparation. Barry Westling
James, These are pertinent analogies. However it's said, tuning in and being willing to spend time with students with their individual needs will only help the successful outcome we are seeking. Barry Westling
John, I agree. It takes so little extra effo9rt to give a helpful suggestio0n, a kind word, or sentiments that imply support. Barry Westling
Ashley, Also, students can be motivated when they feel their instructor is conveying they want to assist in the students success. Barry Westling
John, Exercises are great -- as back up, plan-B, or reinforcement and support. In some categories there just can't be too much repetition. Barry Westling
Ashley, I think if material is related to the course, and students find it interesting, it will be well received. Barry Westling
John, We all have our individual personalities, and being fake usually doesn't help. Just being sincere will be recognized by students who are interested in learning. Barry Westling
Ashley, Career specific skills at a minimum. If we can assist with soft skills, like communication, punctuality, and problem solving, we'll have helped them for a lifetime. Barry Westling
Ashley, Respect and trust are important, and once lost, very difficult to regain. Barry Westling
