About me

Activity

Since I am in the medical profession and a program dierctor, to set an example for my students, I come to class wearing my professional scubs. I feel this sets a standard for my class to start looking the part of a medical professional. My demeanor in class is kept strictly professional when we are discussing work related practices. There are times when we as a group do have fun in class to keep things on a lighter moment.
What I do agree with is standing in the back of the room. At times I also walk around the room, pausing for a short while, this has proven to deter a possible cheater.
I personally find that when a class becomes bored with the topic I add humor in my class to get their attention. I also add personal stories from past work experiences to drive home a point.
I have asked former students for permission to show future classes their completed term papers. The new class was very impressed with some of the work showed. This practice helped to eliviate some stress for new students who have never done a term or it has been a long time since high school.
Discussion Comment
I do tend to lean toward multiple choice questions, because my students will be taking this form of test for medical certification. I do at times give other varieties. Skills performance tests are more fact based and I must meet the guidlines set forth by our accreditors.
A very valuable instrument in helping students achieve their goals. This helps the instructor to keep all students focused on their goals and what additional instruction that maybe required for some.
I very much enjoy questioning by students. To me this opens up broader discussions related to course content and allows for the input of life experience to the discussion. Students relate to these experiences that are brought up and retain information.
I especially like the beginning of the term to find out what different learning styles that are in my class. I ask every student what there preference is on learning, this feedback gives me a good perceception of what to expect from my class. This also helps me in planning my teaching strategies for the class.

The course refreshed my methods of delivering course content. It also gave me some better ideas on how to alleviate potential problems concerning course content.
