They might be more into receiving a text reminder or you can tell them to set up a reminder for themselves.

At the end of each course, I write a motivating statement or email letting my students know what I expect of them, how proud I am of them and how it is out there in the field. How does this motivate them? It gives them the sense that I care for each and everyone of them and I do. It shows that if I can do it, so can they.

Sometimes when you have to refocus your class, it si best to slow down. listen or "read" your class and then ask questions. By asking questions, you can see what path you need to go down to refocus the class or get them reengaged. How do you learn from this? It helps the instructor create a better understanding of how the student is receiving the subject manner.
When making or creating assignments for students, include what they like or the time of year into the assignment. When creating a business plan in my class, it was near Halloween, so we created a business plan to operate a haunted house. The students took ownership of each role in the business. How do you keep them going? As the students specifics about their views on different topics.
It is important to let your older students know that they can learn just as the others do and have the same type of advantage that everyone else does. How can you make them feel less scared? Include them in discussions or ask them specific questions they know the answers to.
It is important to be relevance into the classroom. Teaching students what you have learned in the industry is very important so they can really see how it is. They can learn from what you have learned and maybe even learn from your mistakes. Using real life situations will keep your students engaged. How do you keep them interested? Always asking questions or explaining the many roles in their field of study.

It is very important to keep your class motivated about the subject you are teaching and motivated to learn. How can you do this? Using what is going on today and bringing real facts to the class will not only open your students eyes but they will see that they are learning real life situations they can use in the work place when they receive their degrees.
It is very important to make sure your syllabus is up to date and that you are following it. If you have to, you can make changes as the class moves along but make sure each student receives an updated copy. How can you be sure the student is using the updated syllabus? Refer to it in class and upload it where students can access it. this will help you stay organized and professional.

As a new instructor, you should always be in tune to how your class is receiving you and the information you are trying to teach them. How do you know if someone isn't following along? As questions and get your class involved.
