We recently had a student that had car trouble with very little money etc... The teacher had a roundtable discussion about this problem with other students to figure out how to handle this problem. What we found out was that there was an auto mechanic at the table and also another student that lived close and could pic this other student up and take her home. This student did not miss a day of school and had the car repaired for very little money. Resources are everywhere we just have to ask and look.

Stress levels can go up and down quickly a person says the wrong thing at the wrong time. etc... We as instructors have to be very sensitive to the students everyday and how they are in the classroom. They may have had car trouble on the way in or the children are sick. We do not know what is going on. It is our responsibility to make sure that our students get out of the class what they need from the objectives and lesson plans. We are not baby sitters but we no need to have our hand on the… >>>

Recently I changed my project formula in the classroom from papers to actual real-world applications. These projects are the length of the term for 12 weeks. SO each week as we learn in the classroom we add another piece to the puzzle of the project so it is growing and maturing as the student does. This eliminates the weekend warrior that types a research paper the night before it is due. These projects are for the business/Accounting students. Business law students have to create a business from the ground up and process the proper paper work be sure they have… >>>

Hello: I teach at a very small community college and we get to know our students very well. This is to the point we know what motivates them and what frustrates them as well. I have found that I'm able to help control the frustration by listening and offering some guidance while at the same time encouraging them to excel.
Hello: I work in a very small school. Many of my students have strong emotions and often bring them from one class to the next. I ask that they refrain from openly criticizing instructors-- as this leads to a volatile situation many times. I will ask them to stop it and then after my class. I will see if they need to vent some frustration. I will encourage them to stay focused on their goals. If this does happen I will alter my lesson plan some to bring in a motivation tool to lift up the spirits in the classroom.
True: But the students need to know that there are many opportunities out there for them. A certification brings about a sense of respect in the filed of study.
You have to teach by example. I come from a long line of teachers and adminstrators and I knwo what it takes to make a positive change in someones life.
I have incorporated this into my first class every term and I often go back to the basics just as a reminder. I want them to relax and focus on the school work not worry about toher issues.
Yes; I have had a few students not follow up and then have issues during the term. They shoudl be focused on the course not everything else.
Hello: I have a Certified Fraud Examiners License (CFE). I try to set an example to my students that maintaining these certifications is critical to the profession that I represent and adhere to. I use my certification to also bring into the classroom real world experiences and examples of the accounting profession.
