About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Brenda, Good strategy because that way everyone has the same information and can move forward in the class to achieve the goals and objectives that have been shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, Always good when you can go to colleagues for advice and questions. They will help you to expand your expertise as an educator while giving you an opportunity to increase your confidence in the classroom or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, These two elements are so important in the teaching process. Knowing you care about them as individuals and are there to support them if they are willing to do the needed work goes a long way in helping students to stay in school and be successful. This is the human aspect of teaching and student growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frances, This is great training for your students. As you say not only do they gain the needed skills but they learn about the human factor in helping people as well. This is how they develop their professionalism. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kimberly, This is the approach I use as well and I feel the same as you in that this approach helps each student to grow individually as well as the class collectively. They start to see how group problem solving can work and they learn how to work with others to reach a mutual solution. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kimberly, This is the connection that students needs between the content and application. Once they start to see and use this connection their problem solving skills start to expand and they are on their way to being reflective thinkers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Christopher, This is how we grow and course improvement occurs. The more feedback we can get the more accurate picture we can get of what our course is doing for the students and how we can make it even better. This then becomes a win win situation for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, If students see your passion for your field and your enthusiasm for teaching it then they are going to become engaged at a much higher rate. Excitement is catching so we need to spread it around. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Good point and one to consider as you are sharing your advice and career success strategies with students. The advice needs to be targeted and valued by the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, This has been my experience as well. This way I can customize my instructional delivery to increase the engagement factor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
