About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Lawrence, This is the human factor that should be a part of all our interactions with students. Knowing someone in an authority position cares about them as individuals and their success goes a long way in retaining a student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lawrence, Yes, this effort can be very rewarding to both the students and yourself. I know when I develop a new activity or try a new delivery technique I get energized and that spreads to my students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, This is a good strategy to use as it gets them to stop and think for a bit. Most students want to rush right into the problem without thinking it through and considering different options that may be available before coming up with a final problem solving choice. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frances, Like the formula because it is a winner. This is what it takes to become a problem solver in a common sense way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This is a good way to use graphic organizers and keep the focus of students. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us as I know it will be of benefit to other instructors that are wondering how to keep their doodlers engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edwin, Good point, thanks for making it in this forum. It is amazing how reinforcement can help a struggling student to stay in school and become a part of the class. Knowing the teacher cares about him or her is valuable in building student confidence. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joselyn, You make a very good point about the need for us to bring the human factor into our classrooms and labs. This is the main reason that many of us are teachers. We like to work with students and help them to move toward their career goals. So the more we can learn about them and provide support to their goals efforts the more rewarding teaching will be for us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
BRIAN, A comfortable and supportive environment where the instructor is recognized as the learning leader but the students feel they can participate and contribute with ease goes a long way in setting up a positive learning experience for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nancy, There is a saying that support this point. It goes "to teach is to learn twice, once as a student and again as a teacher.". By having your students involved in the delivery process they will get to learn the content in a way that reinforces it even more in their working memory banks. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joshua Justin, I agree because if the students see that you are interested in the material and find value in it so will they. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
