About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Renee, Great way to set the stage for the class. This way from day one the students know what the expectations are and how they can meet them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Renee, Well said because there seems to always be more content than there is time to teach as well as learn it. It is a matter of sorting through the essential information and selecting that which will most impact the career development of students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Willy, Mistakes are sometimes the most effective way to learn a lesson. As a tradesman I know this for sure. By helping your students to see the value of what they have learned from one of their mistakes you are showing them the way to a more enhanced career path. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Renee, Keeping up is essential if you are going to have any creditability with your students. They need to know that they are learning from someone that is current in his or her field as well as understands what the key content is that they need to learn for career success. Good point, thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Gemma, What a great service you are providing your students. I was the first in my family to complete high school and then college so I can relate to the challenges you have in trying to support and encourage these first timers. The travel that these students got to do I know has make an impact on them in relation to their field of study not to mention their personal lives. The motivation level has to be tremendous for these students and I would expect they will be excited to share their experiences when the fall session begins. Gary Gary… >>>

SANDRA, What is your process in terms of selecting those life experiences that apply to the specific topic being discussed? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
SANDRA How do you secure this information as you prepare to interact with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
SANDRA, Can you expand on this as it relates to your instructional style verses instructional delivery? Thanks. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Berna, This is what increases the value of the course to the students. They need to see the ROI for the course and when they do they will start to realize they need to invest time and effort to be successful in the course. So the more applications you can make the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Berna, Good strategy to follow. Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. The more you can offer both the more engaged your students are going to be. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
