About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Debra, This is a very logical and wise way to approach sessions like this. The results I am sure give the students insight into the topic in a way that is informative and supportive to their learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. K., Thank you for the analysis of how to approach the delivery of content and then how to engage students in the use of that content. It is a challenge for instructors to meet because the career development of their students depends on it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, Like the strategies that are being used to help in the development of critical thinking skills. I agree about our needing to make sure we help our students to develop skill in critical thinking. Their career success will depend on this type of thinking. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrew, Relevancy and application are two essential elements that students need to see in their courses. Your point is a good one because if they don't they are not going to see value in relation to what is being studied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Angela, Good way to get a "read" on your students right from the start. I know this really helps with your instructional planning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, This is why it is important to earn their respect and then develop rapport with them. Rapport gives you insight into the students and how to shape your interaction with them to have the maximum impact on their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, This is a great idea because it helps the students to reflect on the resources that they have and how they will be used out in the field. Thanks for sharing this idea with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Yes, they do. Stories from the field are what increase the value of the content for the students. They are the ROI in terms of what they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eurico, Well said. This is such an important skill for them to develop. The results will be seen in their career growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eurico, This is such an important skill to develop yet it seems that most students don't want to take the time to slow down, step back and reflect on the situation. They want to google, slam in an answer and go forward whether the problem is solved or not. I work hard to slow my students down and get them to think about what they are observing and how to shape a solution to the problem that is being presented. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
