Cara, This is a very important way to approach problem solving. The more angles you approach the problem from the more options will come to mind in terms of possible solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, Well said and very true. We need to help our students to step back and do some reflecting on the problem they are trying to solve and see what their options are. This way they will gain expertise in looking at problems in different ways so they can come up with different solutions as dictated by the situations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, Like your definition and how it applies to your field and success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, Good point about reasoning. Reasoning is thought of by many folks as being common sense. Common sense is lacking in many students because they have never had to really think through a situation and come up with viable solutions to problems. The more we can help them to do such the better problem solvers they are going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edwin, You are using a good strategy to help your students acquire the foundational knowledge and skills of the field. The more forms of repetition you can use the better. There is a saying that "to teach is to learn twice" and I believe it is true. By having students to demonstrations they are getting the chance to learn twice and share with others. This is going to help them get this information sealed in their working memories for use when they are out in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raina, Good strategy because without relevance students do not see the value of what is being taught. The more examples and applications you can make the more relevance they are going to see and this increases their ROI for the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rolonda, This is critical for a classroom setting. Feeling accepted and supported gives students the opportunity to settle into a course and focus on being successful. This is how their learning will be enhanced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Sharing like this can be beneficial to and for all students. They learn how to communicate with each other, expand their knowledge of the material and develop their career/social skills in relation to the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, Like the way you are providing different engagement opportunities for your students. You are appealing to the different learning preferences represented among your students and as a result all them will have an opportunity to acquire knowledge and application of the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, This is what reflective thinking is about. The more you can help your students to see the value of clear and concise communication the better. No matter their career field good communication will be an asset. I know you promote this because of the value you associate with student success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
