About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Wes, So true. Without this equipment and the ability to demonstrate to the students how to use such equipment the course will quickly fade into a loss for the students. Their excitement is based upon being able to use such equipment to enhance their skill sets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wes, Good point and one that sells to students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shaun, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in "selling" the course to students. The real life experiences help to make the course come alive and have value for the students in terms of their career growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
ArLene, This approach is how you make the course come alive and expand their critical thinking skills. The more experience in this area the better because this is what they will be doing out in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, I use games a lot in my classes for several reasons. One, adult learners are just taller children. My adult learners get very competitive and excited when we play Jeopardy to review for a test. Another use of games is that they let you and your students use the covered material over and over so through repetition they increase their retention of the needed content in a way that is fun and fast paced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Fu-Sen, An important point. Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in earning the respect of students and getting them engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Good way to break the flow of the class and give your students an opportunity to laugh and reset their brains. They need breaks like this to keep their concentration on target. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, A sense of humor is essential as an instructor. A shared laugh goes a long way in setting the tone for a class discussion or lecture session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Fu-Sen, Good way to provide support to and for your students. By knowing all that you can about them as individuals and their life experiences you have a starting point from which you can customize your approach to meet their learning needs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harry, Development of critical thinking is hard work and requires self discipline, neither of which many of today's students want to put forth. This is why those that do develop these two skills enjoy career success and personal growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
