About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jessica, Simple, to the point and easily understood by students. This will reduce confusion and they will be ready to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angella, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. This is a good way to get students to think about the value of the course and why they are enrolled in it. I know you are impacting the lives of your students in many ways. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Deborah, Based upon the experiences you had with your teachers I am sure you are going to be able to lay out clearly your goals and objectives. This way your students will know what the expectations are and how they can meet them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Garland, I use guest speakers and field trips in my classes for the reasons you list. They are both great ways to get students engaged and motivated about what is being presented. They increase the value of the course for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Deborah, You are on the right track with your strategies. Keep up the good work. A suggestion I would have is to see if you could develop some activities or find some examples of how Spanish has been used in the workplace that are interesting or beneficial. Maybe even some case studies or role playing. This way they can attach even more value to the course and they reason they are in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Garland, This is my experience as well. Many of my students do not know or have not had the opportunity to observe individuals in their field in terms of dress, conduct and professionalism. We do a lot of role playing to help them get ready for entrance into their career field. Gary7 Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Garland, This is some of the best advice you can give your students. They need to realize they are preparing to enter their career and it is up to them to demonstrate they have the wisdom and maturity to be successful in it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry, It is great that you have such instructors in your past from whom you can draw examples of how you want to develop your own instructional style. Through your comments I can see that you are well on your way in developing a comfortable, supportive and engaging style that will help students be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, Like your example and your tying in of your content to economics. This increases the value of the content to the students as they start to see that what you are teaching and they are learning has value as well as will enable them to have good earning potential. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marcia, This is a simple but very effective way to keep a finger on the pulse of the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
