About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Terry, Good information on how to engage all students in the learning process. It is a matter of planning and delivery adjustments when it comes to getting students on point in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raymond, This is critical to do at times. This fall I am teaching five sections of the same course and I have to refocus myself frequently or I get into a rut. I try to do something different in each course even though it is the same content so I can be fresh and excited about teaching that section that day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elaine, All of these strategies are great ways to get the students to pause and "reset" their brains. So get them up and move them around and let them enjoy the opportunity to chat a minute and get ready for the next content session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raymond, This is an important part of the instructional planning process. The more insight the more customized you can make your instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gina, I have been using this method for years and I am always amazed at the diversity of life experiences that my students have had. Having this information enables me to customize my approach with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nieva, Good strategy to personalize the course to the reasons why the students are enrolled. The stronger the connection you can make the more engaged the students will be and this will translate into success for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nieva, Yes, they do and the reason is that you are making the course content come alive and have value to them. The more you can do this the better because the students will grow in their career development as a result of your efforts in making the course worth their time and effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, Effective communication is important for career success no matter the field. Your approach with your culinary arts students help them see the value of good communication especially in your area of verbal communication. You are making learning how to communicate fun, engaging and valuable with each of your activities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Deidre, Students really perk up when real life experiences are shared. When these stories are told they increase the value of the content as well as give the students an ROI on their investment. They are great motivators as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, This is how learning communities are formed and you are doing such from day one. This gives each student an understanding of how he or she fits into the course and opens the door to their making contributions that will enhance not only their learning but the learning of other students as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
