About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Terry, This is common for all of us. I work hard to engage all of my students but the reality is even though they paid tuition and selected to come to college some students will be tardy, absent, non-completers or negative. I work with these students but try to keep in mind that I have a great bunch of students that really want to be there and I enjoy my rapport with them and hope the others will somehow catch fire and get excited about learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry, Thank you for these excellent comments. You are so right in terms of how to interact with and provide support to students. We need to keep this information in our minds as we provide instruction and mentoring. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tierany, This is a good start to developing your instructional style. Keep looking for ways to improve and expand your instructional delivery and you will soon have a host of ways that your instructional style benefits students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MacDameon, This is the human side of being an educator. What are some ways that you provide this kind of support to your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelly, I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to your comments. It takes as you know a lot of planning to keep a variety of learning activities going for the students so they will stay engaged after working all day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, Good way to offer variety in your instructional delivery while keep the course moving forward. This is what being the learning leader is about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, Great way to be responsive to the learning needs of your students. You are right you have adapt and adjust your instructional delivery to meet the different learning needs of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, So true and so important. We are models for our field so we need to always reflect the desired professional conduct, dress and language so our students will know how to be professionals in their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, With the life experiences of your students I can see how it could be a challenge to keep them engaged and focused on what is being taught. By helping them to use these extensive life experiences you are connecting the content to their future endeavors and hopefully their continued career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ali, These are all good ways to make the course personal for the students. Even though not in the same room they are in the same learning environment and this is because you have set up the environment to be supportive and interactive. Great work! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
