About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Termila, What are some successful strategies you have used to reward and motivate your students? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
TANYA, Well said. This is how you stay fresh and excited about teaching your content. You are right about the fact that if you are not interested it is for sure your students will not be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Monika, This is the way to approach being a role model and learning leader for your students. They see you as a successful person in their field and that by modeling their behavior, knowledge and skills as you do they will have made a step forward in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Michele, With our instant culture for the most part we humans do react too quickly. A good problem solver is that individual that can pause, reflect, consider and then propose a solution. My father used to call the pause part "doing a walk about". The "walk about" gave him a chance to think everything through and then come up with a solution. As we were living on a remote ranch where it was up to us to come up with a solution or deal with dire consequences we had to be very good at problem solving or we were not… >>>

Michele, I think your strategy is right on target. The big question of "WHY" is the foundation upon which critical thinking and problem solving is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
George, Me as well when it comes to the value that guest speakers and field trips present to students. Both of these activities validate what you are teaching and gives application to the content in the setting that the students will soon be working. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rob, Good way to see the environment through the eyes of your students and then help them to be successful in what ever conditions exist. By doing a few things that show your students that you know the environment is not the best but you want it to be good for them you are showing that you care about them and their success under your leadership. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Based upon the requirements you are in a position to be a true role model for your students. From day one they see you as a person that they can emulate and the results will be that they will be prepared to transition to the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bruce, Yes they do and this is why I think they are so valuable. Thank you for these comments because I know they will be helpful to other instructors that are thinking about using them with their students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karl, Like how you make a practical application for each student once you know why he or she is in the course. This is the foundation upon which you can build your rapport with your students and they in turn see the ROI that will come out of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
