About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Roberta, This is why it is so important for the syllabus to be clear and concise. It is the document that lets students know what they need to do to be successful in the course as well as reduce their anxieties about course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aleksandra, Yes it is and it is something we educators need to consider as we do our final planning for a course session. If a piece of technology does not work by knowing it before hand you can adjust how you are going to deliver your content and the class will keep moving forward. Tough to learn that you can't use something when you have a room full of students looking at you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aleksandra, This is so important and needs to be ongoing as each class of students take on a different personality. By doing so you are going to convey a message of support and encouragement to your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alexis, The very best way to convey a message of professionalism to your students. This way they can see you both as a role model as well as a representative of their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alicia, As you know each student has his or her learning preference and you are reading that through your observations. By taking this reading you then can adjust your delivery to appeal to the different learning preferences in the class and keep your students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alicia, I use grading rubrics as well for the reasons you mention. They really help students to see exactly where points were earned and lost so they can plan for how to meet the course requirements in their next assignment or quiz. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeff, They serve so many functions in the teaching learning process and this is another application that can be made. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janice, They sure do. They cannot imagine that you have set where they are sitting and that you had life challenges that you overcome as you were progressing through your classes. It is important that they know so they can understand that you understand about them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
HOWARD, This is what earning their respect and developing rapport is all about. You are impacting their lives and helping them see a future for themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Self discipline seems to be missing in many of our current students. Your point about the value of self discipline is a good one and something we need to convey to our students on a regular basis. By developing self discipline they will be able to secure information, make choices and then solve problems once they are working in their career areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
