About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Vanessa, Seems like I have such students every session. They do have selective hearing and reading when it comes to quiz and due dates. By taking the approach you do and holding them accountable through the syllabus you have meet your professional obligations and helped the students to see that you are expecting them to meet the standards you have set for the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Quetittia, Like the way you set the tone for your course. You inform the students right up front as to what they will need to do to be successful and then you help them to to get settled into the course through the ice breakers and introductions. Good foundation upon which to build future class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julius, Good advice for all instructors to consider as they plan their first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yvette, Good way to hold students accountable for knowing what is in the syllabus. Testing them over it helps them to spend time looking at it and internalizing the policies and requirements of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vanessa, This is a good way to keep students current with the progress of the class and what is being covered at what time. This is the a good example that will be of help to other instructors, especially those that are just starting their teaching careers. Thank you for sharing this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, A lot on how this situation is perceived and handled will depend on the polices of your school and the career area that students are preparing to enter. We have a section in the Career Planning course that talks about perceptions and tattoos. Then the students can decide for themselves about tattoos. I have graduates come in a talk about the challenges of securing employment and career growth among the topics are tattoos in the work place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
KENNETH, All good ideas for getting students engaged in the learning process. The more engagement the more excitement and this increases retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
KENNETH, You are right about happiness spreading to students. You bring passion for your field to the class and show them you are excited about teaching your content and they will get excited as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Morgan, This is a great professional development program for yourself. You expand your confidence and skills as a demonstrator and your students get the benefit of having the level of the demonstrations lifted. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
