About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Walter, Good way to balance learning and application. The students get the information and then have a chance to apply it by relating it to real world case studies. This increases their buy in to the course content and increases the value of what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Dave, Thank you for sharing the value of student feedback. You are right it is from which we improve our courses and implement new strategies and delivery formats. The students appreciate the fact that we instructors are willing to listen to them and seek their feedback. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Yes it is. Glad this information was of help to you. I wish you continued success with all of your instructional efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jerry, There is so much to learn from students and it sounds like you were able to take this learning and shape it into your instructional style. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Floyd, Good list. Thanks for sharing it with us. I know it will be of value to other instructors, especially those just starting their teaching careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. You are providing both in your approach. I know you have the interest of your students as a result of your planning and implementation efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, I think this is a great way to refresh them on why they are enrolled and investing in themselves. They need to see that they are making progress toward their career goals and that this class is part of that effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
George, As I am a hands on learner I always enjoyed the times when we went out into the shop. By doing so with your students you are validating why you are teaching the content you are because the students get to see how the content can be applied. This helps to make the course relevant to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Floyd, Great definition because you hit all of the key elements needed to display professionalism while extending the human factor and making you a part their learning and career development. This is what we should be about each time we interact with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dianne, I use case studies and scenarios a lot in my courses for the reasons you list. They help students to stop, reflect and propose solutions to problems. They need to develop skills in this area as that is what they will be doing throughout their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
