Joey, great point concerning taking care of any concerns promptly. The longer a situation lingers the more likely it can grow and grow to a level that may be out of your individual control. Taking care of concerns promptly, fairly, and consistently is key to good classroom management. James Jackson

Angela, I agree 100% that an adult classroom can be difficult at times to manage. It is also hard to do it alone. I highly recommend the MaxKnowledge Lounge (www.careercollegelounge.com/). This is a free resource to all students of a MaxKnowledge class and contains a great deal of information and resources from highly skilled instructors across the country and the world. Instructors from all subjects and topics share their experiences, techniques, and provide advise when requested so you may want to give it a try. James Jackson

Angela, music is so individualistic and personal that I would recommend staying with the headphones. It only takes one student to upset the balance of freedom in the classroom and I have at times informed some students that they do not want to be the one responsible for taking away the privilege for all students. Some students feel that because they pay a tuition that they get to make the rules so there are times when you tactfully need to let them know that their tuition dollars pay for the PRIVILEGE to attend the school and they are not allowed… >>>

Samuel, great post and thanks for bringing forward the important topic of clearly communicated expectations. Also important is the purpose why these expectations are important and what they need to take away from the learning experience. Keep up the great work. James Jackson

Jacqueline, for those that are new to peer group coaching could you elaborate a bit on how you structure the groups and how you setup the scenarios that are used to solicit group participation? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Russell, well stated. What advise would you provide to a new instructor on how to best earn respect and what can they do to better demonstrate empathy? James Jackson
Mohammed, what are some of the ways you are able to get students focused and engaged? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson

Anthony, I understanding what you are saying about being intuitive but for those instructors that may not have that level of intuition there are also other great techniques. For example, it is important to ask questions and have students use the question in their answers. Have students respond to a question using a current event or real world example of what they have learned in a lesson. The more we as instructors can ensure students are receiving our information and can make use of that information then by default we can become more "intuitive" or knowledgeable about how our students… >>>
