Activity

Rebecca, how do you differentiate between "not so motivated" and introverted students? For some they prefer to remain behind the scenes and take in information versus being out front and providing information. What techniques do you utilize to get your more introverted students to step forward and share their thoughts? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Robert, open and honest dialog is a great technique and goes a long way for students to feel safe and ready to learn. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. James Jackson
andrea, great point about having an upbeat and energetic classroom environment. With over 5000 instructors making comments over the last several years this has been a very positive trend with respect to such instructors not needing a lot of disciplinary actions. James Jackson
Sean, what actions do you take to ensure your instruction is meaningful to your students? How do you measure success and how often do you measure? Do you make any adjustments to your lesson plan after a measurement does not reach your intended goal? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Jacquie, can you provide some specific examples of how you make it all about the student? Thanks for any examples you can provide. James Jackson
Reynaldo, the goal is to become an effective Guide. A good Guide takes control and is friendly with students but not at the expense of achieving the necessary learning outcomes of the course. James Jackson
David, the goal is to be a guide. A good guide can be friendly and retain control but you do not want to be a direct buddy or controller as both are not truly focused on student success. You may want to review the materials again and focus on the traits of the guide and how a good guide is able to best direct students down the road to achieving their learning objectives. James Jackson
Allen, I too am a poor test taker and have experienced great results sharing my techniques with my students. Thanks for sharing your technique. James Jackson
Donald, do you share these statistics with your students? Could be beneficial for them to know that students that follow your steps perform x% than those that do not. Just a suggestion. James Jackson
Bryan, excellent point. Nothing worse than letting students down by not keeping your word and not completing tasks you say you will complete or to be on time for meetings with students including classroom sessions. Thanks for your comments. James Jackson
