Hi David! I like it David! Then I review at the end of the day to be sure that we have achieved out goals. The sound of the voice is also important. I tell my students that if I repeat something 3 times, you are sure to see it on a quiz or exam. Chunking is another good technique, but I caution that it may not work for all students. I try to make chunking visual as well. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED107 Facilitator
Great Bridget! I only speculate that sharing personal experiences from a hospital setting is very useful to those students who are going into the medical field. In this environment, success depends on both academic success, a passion for the work, and experience. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Bridget! I like to do random grouping as well with a planned approach. The plan is that I manipulate the class a bit so that the placement works well for all concerned. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Bravo Kelly! It is definitely about mutual learning and mutual growth. A perfect way for all concerned to increase their knowledge base. Good job! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Greetings Thomas! So you become the arbitrator for the groups? The one thing that I don't hear instructors provide students with is the group process - forming, storming, norming, performing and disbanding. I would like to think that group work is as much about the process as it is the assignment. Thanks for letting me share those thoughts and keep up the good work. Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Greeting Ginette! Staying in touch with our students ensures that learning takes place. The student feels like the instructor cares about their outcomes and future successes. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Mark! I like to think of myself as a student as well. I make sure that I learn something new as a result of preparing for class in addition to being part of he body of the class. People from all walks of life have some very important things to teach us. Just be open to learning and walk in whenever that door is opened. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED107 Facilitator
Absolutely Jon-Paul! Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Mary! I agree with both! It removes that barrier that students often perceive between instructor and student. Makes the student know you are genuinely involved with their learning. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Greetings Mary! It's obviously those things that are very simple which are often most successful. I, also, like to reenforce key learning concepts but that can be done with all students in mind. The other thing that which is important is once you feel the student is comfortable making sure they are included in class discussions. Asking another student in the class to be a class/study buddy. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
