Hi Natalie! For those of us who are not online instructors, I don't think that we fully comprehend what skills are needed. It's taken for granted in a traditional classroom that our verbal communication and body language are most often clearly understood. Why don't you share a few more tips for online instructing? Thanks and keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Absolutle Natalie! It builds confidence as well as self-esteem while establishing a positive learning environment for everyone in the classroom. Truly a win-win situation. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Mary! It's really very simple isn't it? Instructors stay in tune with their student's needs while recognizing their learning styles. From there - instructors align their daily plans to meet those needs. You are doing a great job! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Natalie! It's about students being able to connect with the real world while applying what they have learned in the classroom. Using examples helps each of us realize that we have a lot to offer, therefore, building self esteem. Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator

Hi Mary! This is a tough one! How do we teach someone to be sensitive to another person's challenges? Some things that come to mind - some of which I don't think would be appropriate in the classroom - but. . . 1. Discuss the situation if the student who stutters is willing - this could be very tricky. 2. Assign classmates as partners - rotating frequently - this should provide a better understanding. 3. Hi Kimberly! Yes, evaluating individual learning styles in the first couple of weeks is important. You know more about your students, therefore, you will use the best tools which will address different learning styles. Perhaps the short-snswer, problem-solving quizzes will address some learning styles, but I don't think you will get a comprehensive view of your student's learning styles. Do you have a tool that you use for evaluating student needs? If you don't - I suggest that you post the question to see if other instructors have something that they use. Keep up the good work! Hi Nelia and Susan! Actually, I find that non-verbal is as strong if not stronger than verbal communication in mnay instances. And - when an instructor knows their students and is tuned in to their needs, the instructor and the student benefits. Good job ladies! Jane Davis ED106 facilitator
Hi D.A. Reid! Absolutely! I really like all of these skills and think that they are very important to student learning outcomes. However, there is at least one other skill that I would like to remind you of - listening! Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Maria! Learning is about review, repeat, repeat, practice, repeat and review, isn't it? Good job! Jane Davis ED107 Facilitator
Hi Jennifer! This is a very good approach. Have you thought about asking another student in the class to act as her mentor/learning partner? Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
