Activity

Great awareness, Julie. Jumping right in can be intimidating. Small talk can be as simple as the weather, or something big that is taking place in the world (i.e. the Olympics, or Spring coming, etc). Taking the time to build that rapport is essential for a successful student interaction. What are some other things you can talk about in small talk? Dr. Jean Norris
Julie, I can see how that would be a concern. What can you do to limit multiple students coming in at once? Dr. Jean Norris
Interesting point, Julie. How you think the student feels sharing personal issues in front of the group? Dr. Jean Norris
Julie, How about that?! What a great way to communicate with someone, and voila, now a better process is in place. Thank you for sharing! Dr. Jean Norris
Deborah, Teamwork is a great way option. Thank you for sharing! Dr. Jean Norris
Leon, It can be helpful to remember the prospective students motivation or desire for sure. What do you do when you don't know what this is though? Dr. Jean Norris
Leon, Very true on both fronts. So is there anything specific you can do to change someone's negative behavior or body language? Dr. Jean Norris
Chelsea, Thanks for all your comments! You have wonderful insights! I hope you enjoyed the class! Dr. Jean Norris
Chelsea, That's great! This approach has been around for quite a while so what do you do when a prospective student reacts negatively? In other words...it can sound false at times and break rapport. Ever have this experience? Dr. Jean Norris
Chelsea, How might this awareness help you in communication with others with a different preference? Dr. Jean Norris
