Hi Gerry, Placement seems to be a motivating factor for most efforts toward alumni, especially in today's market. Just having a connection with them, should be helpful in gathering placement details. I'd advise you to think about specific opportunities you can set up where you can gather their employment information. For example, asking for it in a profile they must complete for an alumni website or making employment part of your transcript request form. Hi Fiona, Your thoughts on who you plan to include on your Advisory Board are good ones. It's interesting you're planning to include current students. This is a bit unique, but I believe will provide a great pay off down the road when those students become graduates. My prediction is they will be your future alumni interested in serving on your advisory board. June
Hello Gerry, Creating and maintaining a website definitely takes a level of commitment, both financially and in the area of personnel needed to manage it. That being said, it is a fantastic method for communication. Often schools spend an incredible amount of money trying to find and maintain contact with their graduates. A website accomplishes that same thing. In fact, graduates will find YOU via a website. This is a valid point to bring up when trying to get the "buy in" you're looking for. June
Gerry, Good point! Sometimes the most difficult people to get "on board" are the people within your own organization. If you can get them to "buy in", as you said, others will follow. June
Hi Gerry, I like your thinking. There is great benefit in pairing your college's mission statement with the mission statement for your alumni association. Although they are not the same, there's certainly a benefit in having a connection between the two. June
