The more you know! Never stop learning. This course taught me a lot about how to reach out to students, and really add an extra boost to my class. It can be challenging to really connect with students, but overall very effective for them to know that you that you honestly care about them and their success.

Students will 'zone out' or start to drift off if lessons have no life in them. Keep things fresh, postive, as exciting as possible and moving at a steady pace.

it is really easy to get into a cycle of negativity. when you feel overwhelmed, it is important to take a step back and analyze the situation and refocus energy into positive forward movement.

adult students learn differently than younger ones. active learning vs. passive learning. don't treat your adult students as though they are in high school.

all students are different and may learn, retain, and test in slightly unique ways. as teachers we should be able to address these issues and deliver information and tests accordingly.

I find that it is incredibly helpful to switch up testing styles within our class structure. Students often get too used to one style of test, and then can only regurgitate the information for the short term based on the test structure itself. i feel that a more comprehensive method really helps the students to actually learn and retain the information. a combination between kinesthetic 'hands-on' tests, written subjective tests, and then written objective tests works really well for a full scope of testing knowledge.

so far this year i have noticed that just like the learning styles of students differ, so do the test taking abilities. beyond the matter of studying, it never fails that certain students will excel with one type of test, ie: written, multiple choice and then get really nervous and struggle through the practical portion of the exam. we try to encourage good study habits, ask questions, seek out extra help, tutoring, office hours, practice at home etc., in order to be best prepared for the exam.

I think that CATs are a great teaching aid to assist in the learning process. Every little bit counts, and breaking up the class format is helpful in stimulating students minds.
Sometimes questions, both from the receiving end and the asking end, can be intimidating. encourage students to feel comfortable coming and asking questions, but also don't feel as though you have to make up an answer if a student asks you something you don't firmly know the answer to. i agree with the informational policy of admitting you dont know the answer, but will research and find out.

I, myself, am definitely a visual learner. I found that in class students having some trouble with conversions could benefit from the visual breakdown that I have used along the way to help me in my studies. I presented the mathematical content, followed by the visual, as well as some hands on demos and it seemed effective in touching base with the class on the whole.
