Nonverbal cues during clinical rotations are a great idea not to cause concerns in patients or embarrass your student if they need to be redirected.

It is important to keep evolving your teaching style as you progress throughout your career. There is no reason to be scared to implement new ideas and methods, if they do not work for you they can be replaced with other activities. Keeping new ideas flowing into the classroom will keep the instructor excited to teach the content which is likely repetitive for them.

I never thought to incorporate visual note taking in the classroom. This is a fun way to memorize terminology!

Many of the suggested activities seem fun and will provide opportunities for active learning. I will most likely incorporate all of them although I might have issues with the sports themed games since I am not good with the rules of baseball or football!

I often implement games within my classroom lessons. I use Kahoot, Jeopardy and Millionaire games currently. I like the idea of the Guess Who? and find your match games and will be attempting those on a trial basis!

From this unit I learned that six repetitions must occur for learning to move from the short term to long term memory. I always thought it was three times of repetition so I will be sure to incorporate this extra review to have better information retention in my class. I will also try to create learning segments of 10-20 minutes to ensure productivity and active participation.

We measure student mastery by having the students complete competencies that are based on curriculum outcomes. This ensures that the student can apply the knowledge learned in the classroom.

I have learned from this segment to avoid asking if the students have any questions as a blanket statement. I almost always do this before moving on to the next subject or within the last few minutes of class. To better educate the class, a better method would be to formulate questions that students most likely have but may not be willing to share. This can lead to a discussion where students do not feel singled out for not understanding content.

I have incorporated technology into the classroom by utilizing Kahoot as a fun study aid for final exams and board test prep.

Engaging your students with educational discussion is just as important as giving assignments, regardless of grading. This section brings up a good point....don’t assign work simply for the sake of keeping the student busy! An ungraded discussion recapping daily events may be more beneficial than two chapters of homework.
