About me

Activity

A course should always be evolvling based on technology, changes in curriculum requirements and assessment / evaluation.  I like the idea of a peer (fellow instructor) evaluation.  I think that could be valuable.

While I am very familiar with the use of rubrics, the concept of formative assessments is something I have not used often.  I think the one-minute paper / muddiest-point paper ideas would be useful for me, as instructor, to determine students' learning progress.

Two new concepts to me are the dynamic syllabus and wikis.  I would like to explore the dynamic syllabus concept more and also would like to see a sample wiki and learn more about how to create one.

The Learning Objects Database is a new concept and could be useful.  In other words, having different teaching methods / tools available in a "common access" location so that the same tools can be used in a variety of courses.  This could achieve greater consistency and efficiency.

The importance of keeping sound, organized documentation of communications with students (particularly communication related to less than preferred behaviors) is important to note.  Must explore methods to doing this in our CMS.

I appreciated learning about the different learning styles as I have seen these demonstrated in the online and in-person environment.  Valuable to understand that these are learning styles and not simply personality traits.  I must shift my thinking from the synchronous to asynchronous style of teaching and interacting.  This content is helpful in understanding and applying the value of asynchronous methods.

I agree that posting a bio and asking students to do the same is an excellent way to establish authority and to lay the groundwork for getting to know your students.  I plan to use this method whenever I begin teaching a new group of students.

The graph showing improved learning with improved student interaction in the online environment sticks with me.  I appreciated the periodic questions / opportunities for interaction in this Max Knowledge course and can see the value of that.  I will learn how to do this in the CMS that we use.

Final quiz was challenging due to wording of some questions / answers but an excellent wrap-up.

This course was valuable not only for first time teachers but for seasoned instructors as well.  It is a fresh reminder of the tools needed to be effective in the classroom including preparation, delivery methods and assessment tools.
