There is a lot of things that could create stress or even add more stress to a stressful situation. Traffic, powerpoint machine not working, copies of test not ready, intranet slow in opening, students not calling (no show - no call), computers in the classroom not all working, and on and on. How do I reduce or eliminate some of the stresses in my daily life? First, I try to wake up 2 hours before I go to work so that gives me an extra 30 minutes to settle down when I get to work. Regarding copies not being available… >>>

I have 4 modules that I teach. They rotate from 140, 150, 160, to 170. When it is time to do the 140 again I make sure to read the notes again and also do research on what might be new in the world out there. I always do this so I do not only keep myself current but I also make sure the students get the latest updates with regards that midule. Also, if there is another instructor who will be able to give me more information I make sure I discuss with her whether it is the theory… >>>

I know some people loves to procrastinates. I am so glad I am not one of them. Especially when I am in class. Students can sense if you are prepared or not. The day before I usually will look at the next day's schedule so I will have all the materials I will need for the class next day. I like using gadgets or sample tools to make my class interesting so I make it a point I have everything ready the day before. Also, if there will be a quiz or test the next day, it is good to… >>>

Having a backup plan does not only happen in school. It can also happen at work. When I first started working for a doctor's office, it just so happened that the area would always be hit by a thunderstorm that would cause power surge or power fluctuations or worse, even a blackout. Having a backup plan would always prove handy in cases of emergency. The same thing in class. If the PowerPoint machine does not work, it is good to have a backup plan with making the students follow your lecture by having their textbook open and highlight or write… >>>

Since our school provides the grading system, I will not discuss the system but instead how I feel about the tests that are given to the students. I believe that tests and quizzes are given to the students not only to measure what they know but most importantly is to know where they might need help. Testing on their basic knowledge and then gving them a little bit more challenging questions will help students think and be challenged. It helps me also to evaluate myslef how I did in teaching them what they are suppose to know. I am not… >>>

One thing that spoils my day is walking in to a classroom with an unlceaned board. I like a clean board beacuse it signals to the class that we are ready to start a new day, a new lesson, a new challenge. The students know that I have a little corner on the board where I write the activities for that day. Also having the date on the board ensures that their homework and quizzes and tests are all dated correctly and also with them referring to their calendars they know what is due for that day. I try to… >>>

I like to come to school early just so I can relax and gather all the materials I will need for the class. I also make sure that I make copies of PowerPoints for the student and since we are in the computer class the students have access to the Powerpoints while I am lecturing and they may write their notes and also it is very easy for me to move around the class. When we are working with a medical software or the CMS 1500 application, I have the medical software or a claim form on the big screen… >>>

Being an instructor, students look up to us as their model. We have to show confidence in what we do. As soon as I enter the class I smile and greet them a cheerful day. I say something funny to wake up the class before anything else. If there is a game in season I try to watch the news recap so the next day I can start the day with an interesting conversation. Any new song that they are playing in the radio, I ask them what is the title of that song or who sang the song. Anything… >>>

When I think of cheating, it is not only cheating during quizzes and test. I really get frustrated with sutdents who think they can just copy from their classmates homework and think not get caught. No matter how much I emphasize that the homeworks, lab practicals, quizzes and tests are not just given for them to get a grade and pass. These exercises are given to students so we can see where they need help and where we can focus so we can clarify any questions that they might help. I do not think the students realize that whatever they… >>>

I have students who work and so by the time they get to class they are tired and sleepy. What I normally do is sit them by the aisle so they can avoid leaning on the wall and fall asleep. When I lecture I walk around and it is easier for me to just tap my fingers on the desk without having to much classroom distraction. I also call students at random during lectures and also during laboratory practical exercises to much sure they are doing their work.
