We will use the concept of student-developed portfolios. The one challenge that I can see for us might be, because of the nature of the portfolios being customized to the students's interests and needs, is coming up with an appropriate way to grade or score them. I will have to take some time to creatively develop a rubric that makes sense and lends to the learning process.

I appreciate the review of verbs used in taxonomy. This is helpful for me in writing objectives and desired outcomes. I need to work on developing rubrics that can be an objective, useful tool for assessment.

Excellent module. Authentic assessments are more appropriate for CTE as we are preparing students to develop real-world skills that can be used in the job market. Also, starting with the outcomes and working backwards makes total sense. The assessment should indeed drive the instruction.

I appreciate how it instructs to start from the very first with active learning. Set up the environment and set the tone early. Explain the methodology for pedagogical choices and work to gain buy-in from the learner. Combat resistance with a thorough understanding of the ideas and principles behind the direction of imparting the education.

I like the idea of the reflections but I am struggling at the moment trying to figure out how to make it work in my situation. Since I do not teach until the fall, it is difficult to see without developing the context of experience.

JiTT promotes active learning engagement and increases learning by intentionally linking out of class and in class activities. I really appreciate the idea of the short assessment prior to class, which might be as easy as having the student develop questions related to the topic that will be discussed in class. Will definitely incorporate this into my classes.

PBL is student-centered and student-driven. It makes them an active participant in their learning, rather than a passive bystander.

I like reading and learning about the different areas where different styles of questions highlight learning in a different manner. This way, one can assist students to mastery of the content and meet course objectives.

We already had a course on asking questions appopriatly but I appreciate the redundancy. I really need to ensure that I am asking the right questions in the right way. I like the idea of pre-planning the questions. Never asking, "Any questions?" is good advice. If asked at the end of the class, the students might not answer because they want to get out of there!

To be honest, I am not truly interested in knowing all there is to know about technology. I much prefer to use a number 2 pencil. Because I didn't grow up with it and because it doesn't interest me too much, it makes me pretty nervous to be teaching the Net generation and trying to find ways to engage with them. I know I need to be more curious with technology and it is my goal to learn some cool techy approaches. Wish me well!
