Linda, So true. If we invest a little energy early in our careers, it usually pays off for us. We can get into a great routine after instructing for a few years. Though note that for new instructors, reaching out to people who have been teaching longer than you can give you an extra advantage. Dr. Melissa Read
Lenore, That's a tough place to be. Sometimes, everything seems like a priority. When this is the case, I often ask myself what would happen if I did not complete each task on the list. This process usually helps me get clarity on the situation. Dr. Melissa Read
Carrie, This is a pretty common technique amongst instructors and it can work well. Sometimes, getting a few tasks quickly out of the way can be a big confidence builder. Sounds like it certainly is in your case. Also to your point, it can help you clear your mind when there are less tasks on your list. That's a big plus too. Dr. Melissa Read

Sean, So true! Sometimes our success is dependent on others. When this is the case, increased communication is often the key. We've got to let people who we work with know what we need and when we need it. Otherwise, we can be judged poorly when they drop the ball. Dr. Melissa Read
Lenore, Sounds like you have a unique approach, but one that works for you. If completing a few easy tasks help you get to the important stuff, go with that! Dr. Melissa Read

Linda, This seems like the right approach. Cutting the chord every now and again can have it's benefits. Others who you work with can learn to share in your responsibilities for example. As they become more proficient and capable at helping you complete tasks, your work life becomes easier. Dr. Melissa Read
Jerry, Excellent to hear Jerry. Planning a new exercise routine can be rewarding, but tough. Sometimes it's hard to get started. I recommend starting small. Do a little each day and get into the good habit slowly. Dr. Melissa Read
Frances, Interesting approach. I like how you are able to do this coping mechanism almost anywhere - and indoors for the winter too! When we get creative, we can come up with all kinds of innovative ways to cope with stress. Dr. Melissa Read
Gloria, Excellent to hear. Prioritization can make a big difference on the stress we experience each day. Attacking the most important assignments first can help us enjoy the others a little more later, as we get to them. This method also keeps people who are expecting task outputs from us at bay. Richard, Sounds like you've got a range of methods that work great for you Richard. Wonderful to hear! It's nice to have a diverse set of activities to choose from to give ourselves a little variety in the way we cope. Dr. Melissa Read
