Joseph, Paying close attention to rules and regulations come first. I'm glad to hear you are still able to gain efficiencies in having students grade papers using the honor system. Doing random checks of a few papers each round will likely help students stay on point. Dr. Melissa Read
Kathryn, It sounds like you have evolved your approach over time to meet needs as they emerge. I like this approach. It's ok to change your approach as your tasks and stress evolve. There is always room for optimization too. Dr. Melissa Read
Jean, Sounds like the right approach for you. When you can reduce the amount of follow ups, you have less touchpoints and interactions to manage, streamlining your overall efficiency. Dr. Melissa Read

Verdell, I like your thinking. It's important to try to put things into perspective. Taking things too seriously can make everything feel so much more stressful than they need to be. Dr. Melissa Read

Mike, That's a tough challenge. It's hard to provide one-on-one and focused attention in these situations. Grading can also be tough when you choose testing formats that go beyond multiple choice. Dr. Melissa Read
Lynn, So true. The best exercise is the one you are most inclined to do! Dr. Melissa Read
Ruth, Interesting, thanks for sharing. Many of my students take different approaches to managing work and life tasks. People often apply a more organized approach to work life, though home life often needs that same focused approach to keep up with things. Dr. Melissa Read
Lynn, In teaching, we often have to balance efficiency with quality of assessments. Some assessments are fast to grade but do not deeply test knowledge. We must find the right balance between the two. Dr. Melissa Read
Sandy, It sounds like you have a case of the shoe cobblers' shoes. Some people are great at teaching others to do things but have a hard time of actually doing those things themselves. Perhaps the list method works well for others but simply does not work for you. Dr. Melissa Read
Joyce, I like all of these ideas, particularly changing your syllabus. It's nice to be abel to set expectations in advance with students and then get those expectations throughout the semester to work for you. Dr. Melissa Read
