You bring up a challenge that many instructors face Joseph. By working to solve a problem in one area of our lives, we can create new problems in other areas. As instructors, we try to find balance, but we are never perfect.
It's true that sometimes the 'devil you know is better than the one you don't know.' That being said, I think there's something to not covering to poor performers. Letting their lack of efforts bubble to the surface can help open up the possibility of finding better replacements.
Love the idea of thinking through 'proactive responses' James. What a great idea. It's always good to be prepared for anything and everything that comes our way.
This is a really important point Don. If we know we are at capacity with the tasks we've taken on, we've got to push back when people bring us new tasks to complete. While we may disappoint those people in the short term, they are happier with us in the long term.

Like you said Joseph, no one does it all alone. It's ok to reach out and lean on others when you are overworked and there's too much on your plate.
Weekly lists are great Joseph. I know it can be a challenge to keep on top of things, especially during the holiday season. It's easy to fall behind this time of year.
These are great questions to ask Don. Often times, we are not realistic with ourselves and others in terms of our prioritization. Sometimes its important to take a step back and reevaluate.
Yes, grading as we go is a great way to keep on top of things. It also helps us stay closely connected to how well our students are reaching their learning objectives.
It sounds like you've done a nice self assessment Brad. Next step - to your point- is putting together that calendar and those dates. Go ahead and give it a shot and see how it works for you.
You bring up a good point Joe and it's one that many instructors think about. To provide best in class education to our students, we must balance testing rigor with grading efficiency. Too much time spent grading can limit how much interaction time we have with our students. That being said, when we are too efficient in our grading, we may not give students the most thorough evaluations.
