Justin, You are not alone. Many of us find ourselves in the exact same situation. Sometimes the best way to manage both worlds is to combine tasks from both of them onto one list. This way, we can take a look at our tasks and priorities holistically. Dr. Melissa Read
Dawn, That is understandable. Some of us just don't find ourselves in a position to invest much time in ourselves. Doing something small, like breathing or stretching, can still add value. Dr. Melissa Read
Michael, Sounds like a wonderful first step! An organized desk and computer can go a long way in helping you feel on top of things. Dr. Melissa Read
Cynthia, It sounds like you have found a wonderful and healthy approach to coping with stress. I admire how many different coping mechanisms you have available. Dr. Melissa Read
Christina-Rose, Indeed it would. The best part about breathing exercises is that you can do them almost anywhere. It's nice to have a coping mechanism always in your back pocket like this. Dr. Melissa Read

Travis, Wow, imagery can be powerful and that comic says it all. Yes, today, instructors do face incredible new pressures from students, parents and administrations alike. Sometimes the language we use helps reset unreasonable expectations. I like to remind students that I don't give them grades, they earn grades. I am only just a reporter or messenger in this process! Hudson, Yes, I would go ahead and start asking about priorities. It could be that your manager assigns you tasks with various levels of urgency. Understanding which task is highest priority will help you perform better. As for writing lesson plans in advance, it's wonderful when you can do this. To your point, many instructors are not in this position with all the other tasks they are balancing. Dr. Melissa Read
Mary, That sounds like a well rounded approach. It's nice to be able to use some efficient grading techniques and also some that more deeply test knowledge. Dr. Melissa Read
Christine, It sounds like you have found two wonderful stress outlets! That's great to hear. Finding a walking partner who you could also share with could be a fun way to combine the two. Keeping them separate also works. Dr. Melissa Read
Mercedes, It sounds like you are really on top of things! Using technology to your advantage is likely one of the keys to your success. Yes, if you think you have a problem with immediacy, you probably are on to something. I might recommend starting to take occasional breaks from work just to see how it feels. Dr. Melissa Read
