Randall, Sounds like you are dealing with a tremendous amount of stress - coming from all sides. For many of us, the stress just keeps pouring in. While we can't always control what we deal with, we can control our approach on how we deal with it. That's usually the key. Dr. Melissa Read
Russell, Live grading can have its' perks and I'm glad you mentioned this. Sometimes real time feedback helps students stay on track, reminds them of what's most important and helps facilitate learning. However, we have to be careful when using this method not to frustrate or intimidate students with our feedback. Dr. Melissa Read
James, All great points. I should note that sometimes the teachers lounge or break room is not a place to have a nice break at all. It can be filled with the stress of the many other faculty members in your school. I think you are right to take a step back and take a break in another place. Dr. Melissa Read
Pete, Yes, all of these ideas are good. I especially like the one about re-exploring old hobbies. It's never too late to give up on your dreams, outlets and the things you really love. Dr. Melissa Read
Ryan, All great points. I particularly like the one about attitude and I've observed this to be true in many instructors. Our perspective can make such a difference on the way we experience the world. Staying positive is key. Dr. Melissa Read
Angela, Excellent to hear! You probably know and use a lot of these techniques. Sometimes just refreshing yourself is enough to stay on track and make small improvements too. Dr. Melissa Read

Robert, Sounds like you have stress coming at you from all sides! This can be tough. When we're stressed at work and at home, it doesn't give us much tolerance for even the smallest of problems. Dr. Melissa Read
Mohan, Sounds like this approach has worked well for you. Sometimes it's nice to get the most urgent thing off your mind - whether the task is large or small. Keep it up. Dr. Melissa Read
Robert, Sounds like you have found two great coping mechanisms. That's good to hear. Sharing and withdrawing to take some time for yourself are both nice techniques. Dr. Melissa Read
William, Yes, that's the right approach. It's critically important to let go of things that are out of our control. Otherwise we tend to drive ourselves crazy. Dr. Melissa Read
