About me

Activity

lloyd, I agree with common sense. Has anyone found good ways to teach this? Is it teachable? Philip Campbell
Terry, Emotions are the hardest thing to control, and that is why we try not to control, but rather manage. You can never tell how someone else is going to react to something. What we need to do is be the common ground for everyone in the class and then lead the class in the same direction. Philip Campbell
Crystal, It is a different culture. Understanding that is an important part of working at the 2 year institutions. Philip Campbell
Discussion Comment
walter, Teams are important to help an organization be successful. It does not matter what industry you work in. Philip Campbell
Karen, Sharing that with students and encouraging them to do the same will help them be more employable. Philip Campbell
Amy, A positive attitude can conquer all. Philip Campbell
Jonathan, All of these even thought they may not seem like soft skills are vitally important to professionalism. Teaching that and exposing students to all of these opportunities is what will make them successful. Philip Campbell
Melanie, Believe it or not, that happens more often than not. We expect a lot out of our students. We expect a lot out of ourselves. When those two things do not match there is some dissonance that goes on and it is hard to deal with and understand. "Why would someone want to waste their money if they are not going to try?" What we need to realize is that is a question that may never be answered and just encourage students with positive reinforcement. Philip Campbell
Sherry, I agree, examples will lead to modeling and will lead to copying. Philip Campbell
Sherry, So how do we emphasize good work ethic? We use examples of students who had challenges while attending school. Maybe some student can associate with them and work harder to be successful. Philip Campbell
