Alexander, That is an interesting example. What are ways it has not worked? If someone else wants to try this it might be nice to see what issues you ran into and sharing them for others.
If some of our students are able to use common sense, what about the ones who react to situations that we believe is an over reaction. How do we identify common sense?
Harold, Do you ever find that some of your students who are shy do not participate as much? Do you ever present opportunities for those shy ones to interact?
William, It is easy to see how ones communication style can easily be misinterpreted by another, especially when there is a language barrier.
William, Thanks you for that response. Is it lengthy? Yes. Is it accurate? Yes. Do women typically have a better EQ than men? I would say so, but I am man and I am not afraid to admit my deficiencies. Hard skills tend to be the easiest to teach, regardless of age. As you said it is the soft skills that can get in the way. So the question begs to be asked, if we can teach hard skills, how can we teach soft skills?
Pamela, Tempers and accusations can be a volatile mixture. What kind of follow up do you do with those situations to emphasize a soft skill?

Jeane, Isn't it amazing how contagious behaviors are? Which ones do you feel are the most contagious, positive or negative?
Christopher, Communication as a soft skill is important. Is there a specific skill when communicating that creates a clearer understanding for people? I particularly like confidence. Not overly confident, but it is clear that you know what you are talking about. Thoughts?
Doreen, Thanks for that response. You identified some real good soft skills that can easily be role modeled for students. Great distinction between sympathy and empathy. They get confused so much.
