Activity

Helen, Being a "people" person, I enjoy the face to face of a classroom. Renee Shaffer
Jennifer, Yes, that is the main reason. Renee Shaffer
Jennifer, Basic letter should ask for permission to use the materials and give your intention. Most copyright owners will grant permission when/if asked. Renee Shaffer
Jennifer, yes in face to face classes, no problem showing images. But as soon as you videotape it or otherwise put it in the LMS anyway other than the original view, you need to ask permission. Especially if you are showing the artist's (creative) techniques, you need to ask permission. You are bound to receive it, no problem. And in an art class, any time you or student take that work and add to it, edit it, etc. You must have permission! Renee Shaffer

Phil, I have seen the same.! "I teach at several colleges and the most information that I've received fair use was a one page photocopy taped to the wall above the copier." Renee Shaffer
Terry, The knowledge that Pearl Harbor was on December 7th. That is a fact. Basic ideas that are common knowledge such as the Edsel Ford didn't sell too well. Renee Shaffer
Robert, I hadn't heard of this legal battle, thanks! Renee Shaffer
Tom, Yes, the "be the expert" works well in this era of being the best, aka "American Idol", etc. Renee Shaffer
Terri Beth, Yes, many faculty who use active learning techniques run into students who say that the faculty "aren't doing anything" and some how the students are "getting the short end of the stick". Renee Shaffer

Helen, I agree that the no student left behind mentality has been detrimental to most student's interest in actually learning. Renee Shaffer
