Jeannette, Hopefully, this course will prepare you for that eventuality. Good luck and thanks for taking this first step. Renee Shaffer
Jeannette, How true. Being there for all of your students is a necessity for the successful online course. Renee Shaffer
Janis, Active learning really means that the learning also has to come from the student's side of the equation. It is not just the instructor pushing things like content to the student. The student can actively find things on the internet, do practice tests, play games, etc. anything that will activate their minds about the content. It is more than just passive learning where students basically sit their and wait for the content to be pushed to them. And most students are unware of this type of learning and may be scared of it. :( Renee Shaffer
Janis, Love the train of your comments. Postural dysfunctions now and later. Renee Shaffer

Janis, They are continually making improvements. But sometimes, they do seem to be trying to update/improve too fast and too often which can be aggravating and problematic because people need retraining. Renee Shaffer

George, Many times the office of disability services is fighting an uphill battle with administrators over the federal law of accessbility with many sometimes believing (wrongly) that they don't have to provide accessibility to all. Renee Shaffer

Janis, Oh yes, technology can be frustrating. It should be easy and seamless so it is always good to have a plan "B" just in case something doesn't work Renee Shaffer

George, Sometimes the best form of communication is the old fashioned telephone! Glad that you haven't had much issues when it comes to students with disabilities. Renee Shaffer

Tonia, Presence. physical or virtual is so important. There used to be a study that said one of the most important contributors to student success in elementary and secondary schools was the presence of a strong and personable PRINCIPAL. Interesting. Renee Shaffer

If you have ever dealt with a hovering parent interested in their son or daughter's participation in your course, you have probably met a helicopter parent.  Should we fight (FERPA law, etc) or work with them?  See what the U. of Tenn. is doing.
