Jaclyn, I will have to utilize this in the future! Renee Shaffer
Jaclyn, Well said. Here's to having more instructors taking this proactive stance. Renee Shaffer
Jaclyn, What a great observation! It is truly a different world for students with disabilities trying to manuver in higher education especially if their parents or guardians haven't helped them be proactive in the past. Renee Shaffer
Jaclyn, Good point. It has some modifications but it does not help entirely. Renee Shaffer
Alireza, Disabilities are diagnosed by MDs and the like and I would say that it is hard for those without disabilities to understand how they may impact a student. The legal ramifications make all of the disabilities relevant in all higher education courses. Renee Shaffer
Alireza, Good points about keeping things concise and to the point. Announcements need to be regularly done and have some intention rather than just being superficial. Renee Shaffer
Mara, The education world would be so much better for those with disabilities if instructors could help out with any of these angles. Thanks for your insight during this course. Renee Shaffer
Mara, The tabs function can be very problematic as are any tables or graphs. We don't realize how important headings and subheadings can be for those using screen readers. Renee Shaffer
Discussion Comment
Mara, Maybe you can try Dragon Naturally Speaking sometime in the near future and see how it works for you. Renee Shaffer
Mara, Yes, that is an interesting point about students with cognitive disabilities sometimes changing the subject of the discusion. Could it be that they don't feel comfortable "confronting" the chosen topic or that their thoughts might be more "scattered". As an instructor, I sometimes also veer off topic. :) Renee Shaffer
