Being that our students are hands on learners, demos and training aids always help the best. The students also learn though repetition, so repeating the task a second or third time also helps.
Personally I try to stay away from Power Points and try to have enough training aids to put in students hands. When students have these items in their hands it will encourage questions. Most of the time, the students answer their own question when the item is taken apart.

When asking questions to students, you must keep in mind that thier though process only stays within thier instrest. Questions must be made instrusting to them.

It is very important to ID the learning styles of the student. A student that wants a demos will not react to a lecture or audio.

How I like to put things in order. One of my favorite teaching styles is hands on. I put the product in their hands and let the student get familiar with the item then I start to talk about the item. I call this shop talk. Making the students think about what they have in their hands then how does it operate?

First day impressions are always important. Making sure that standards are set and who is in charge of the class room. Some instructors are worried about being a student’s friend and getting accepted in their Cohort Group, others instructors are worried about keeping within the guidelines that are set by the school and still try to teach the class. Syllabi are always a great check list. Syllabi make questions very easily answered because they set the work stations for the room.

Course content is very important. The accuracy of the marital is most important with how fast the technical trade is changing. The engine of yesterday is so far in the past but still around. Because of systems changes and refining drivability issues with today’s fuel; we will need to make sure that we understand the manufacture and not guess what they are trying to do. The problem that I see the must are instructors guessing what is really going on with the systems and not really understanding. We are better off not saying anything at all or say I do… >>>

This was a great refesher. I try to teach professionalism in the class room because of todays standards. I know that "shop talk" is no longer welcome in the work place. Being on time, prompt, clean, and ready to work is very important in todays work place; most employers that I know complain about emplyees not ready to work by 8:00. This will also aply to us the instructors.
