Randa, Thanks for the tip :) Yes, these boards can help use breakdown the content and capture teachable moments for distribution and review later. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Randa, Very true. I would encourage you to think about ways in which the technology has changed how students learn or expect to learn and how we should teach and plan or design instruction. Things have changed as a result of new technology. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Think of ways in which you can upscale your classroom to be less task and textbook driven and more thought and application oriented?  How "risky" is that for the instructor?  What checks and balances MUST you include to facilitate that kind of learning environment?

In our sector our main focus is on skills development and training leading to employment placement and sucess.  Teaching skills however must also include critcal thinking - that is, not only "how to" but "what happens if" or "when this changes what results"?  These are positioning our students to question and find solutions immediately.

Here is an article I wrote on the subject:

Loriann, Yes, good points! So, not only evaluating students but also ourselves as instructors. We must become as reflective as possible so that we can improve more quickly. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Loriann, The customization made possible through Wikis and Blogs means that students can develop their own learning path while still within the greater class group. This also helps us as instructors to "hear" our students more directly. Dr. Ruth Reynard
Loriann, I encourage you to continue :) New technology is opening up access and expanding networks like never before. This changes how and who we teach as much as how our students do and want to learn. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Loriann, Good points. The technology provides varied inputs to reinforce content and allows for students to also publish their own work. Dr. Ruth Reynard
Beverly, Yes, I like your approach here. Creativity is heightened as is customization and production. All of these are critical to professional success and should be maximized in the learning experience for our students. Dr. Ruth Reynard

Beverly, Good points. Yes, I think some students will have a more natural aptitude than others, however, I would encourage you to think about the overall instructional goals that could be met using these tools - we have focused on journaling and reflection for many years in education...for all students. These tools make it easier - new tools on the horizon though... Dr. Ruth Reynard
