Anton, Yes, very true...there is often a tension between IT systems and instructional technology - the former is predictable and stable (mostly) and the latter is quite dynamic...IT folks don't like the latter :) Dr. Ruth Reynard

It is interesting how the Internet has increased accessibility and enriched input and output opportunities for students.  It seems that the most successful learning environments are truly blended: fully online courses are changing now to include increasing opportunities for real-time connections and on-gound are maximizing the asynchronous flexibiliity of online.  In what ways are you seeing your courses become more "blended" in delivery?

Ronnie, Yes, good point! We are much more encouraging of small children to utilize blended inputs that we are of older students :) Dr. Ruth Reynard
Ann Marie, While memorization is a great skil to have and develop, yes, it is also important to continue to stretch students to use what information they have and to apply in in a variety of contexts - critcal thinking... Dr. Ruth Reynard
Dana , Exactly! Yes, technology should always enhance the experience and not simply create more busy work for the students...I learned that the hard way in my teaching :) Dr. Ruth Reynard

Robert, Good points! Yes, there is the concept of individualized instruction but still within a wider community. The student can draw from either aspect when needed which empowers student development and learning. It also means, as you suggest, that the ideas are what connect students rather than simply being in the same class. Dr. Ruth Reynard
