About me

Activity

Tatiana-- Communication is key...early, often and consistently. Sounds like you do a great job. Susan
John-- That is awesome that you are aware of how intimidating your physical presence can be and address that head-on. I agree, humor is an awesome tool to reduce stress. Susan
Chad-- As you point out, FERPA does restrict sharing some information. Some information outlined in the FERPA regulations is appropriate to share if there is a 'need to know'. However, I am mostly suggesting here that information that will help to retain a student be passed along...possible barriers that they have already disclosed to the admissions personnel. These typically include things like the potential for child care issues, etc. Increasing communication among the departments, as appropriate, can really help. Susan.
Pauline-- What do you mean by 'special instructor'? Susan
Steven-- This is really excellent to go in to classes. That way, you are reaching most everyone and it is in little 'sound bites' so they are more likely to retain the information. Susan
Freya-- Excellent! That personal touch...carried throughout the term...is a great thing. You sound like a very caring person. Susan
Glenn-- Excellent point. I think it is very rare that faculty share THEIR fears about how the class will go. It helps the students understand that faculty are also people. Susan
Regina-- That is an excellent point. Any health or accommodation concerns need to be appropriately handled prior to the beginning of classes. Susan
Isis-- Breakfast! That's awesome... Keeping in touch with them the first couple weeks is a wonderful practice. It is those first days that are so important! Susan
Regina-- This is really excellent. Your making a point to speak with them after the orientation reinforces that you care and helps to make them more comfortable. Kudos! Susan
