About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Roxanne, The calendar really is helpful. You have less students not turing in their assignments due to utilizing their calendar. Patricia Scales
Hi Carly, When you hold students accoountable for doing a particular task they tend to pay better attention as to what is going on. Patricia Scales
Hi Brandi, Awesome! We have to get students to see their role in the situation so that they can take responsibility for their own action. Patricia Scales
Hi Sherlian, Yes this works, different versions of the exams. Patricia Scales
Hi MICHAEL, These are two practices that make it really hard for a student to cheat. An instructor should not be doing anything else while students are testing. Patricia Scales
Hi Royace, Keep the class out of it when a student is angry. Deal with that angry student privately. Patricia Scales
Hi Luis, Yes, students would rather be doing hands-on activities instead of listening to lecture, but lecture is important in order to do the hands-on activities. Patricia Scales
Hi Randy, Making learning apply to the real world is what students want and need so that when they begin work they know exactly what needs to be done. Patricia Scales
Hi Lee, Yes! Visual adds better clarity! Patricia Scales
Hi Angelica, You have it! In customer there is really a lot that can be done with active learning. You can take the students to the mall and have some dress professionally and some dress "crazy casual" and evaluate their customer service based on their dress. You will see a huge difference based on dress. My students love this exercise. There are many other fun active learning exercises we do in customer service as well. Patricia Scales
