About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Sara, Students enjoy and learn a lot from case studies. Case studies make students think about what is going on in the real world. Patricia Scales
Hi George, As long as it works most of the time, I would continue using it. Smaller group settings seem to be more effective than larger ones. Students tend to be themselves more in a smaller group setting. Patricia Scales
Hi Jennifer, It is great when students know that they have a trusting environment. This reflects deeply upon you. You create an environment that encourages students to share personal stories with ease and confidence. Patricia Scales
Hi Douglas, Great way to break the monotony! Even adult learners want a mixture of teaching methods. Patricia Scales
Hi Sarah, Great exercise to get the students refocused. Sometimes we really do have to force our students to learn. Patricia Scales
Hi Mike, Some students just do not care. Continue to give active learning type assignments and encourage your students as best as you can. Once you have done all you can for the students, that is all you can do. Grade them accordingly, once they receive so many zeros they will begin to wake up. Patricia Scales
Hi Emily, Students really learn more effectively from doing. I am a kinesthetic learner as well therefore I like teaching this way, however I do teach to reach all types of learners. Patricia Scales
Hi Dirk, Students love it and appreciate it when we make learning apply to the real world. Patricia Scales
Hi Meri, I concur! Visual certainly adds clarity. Students get it, when they see it! Patricia Scales
Hi Gina, Students need as much clarity as possible to ensure understanding. Sharing examples brings about better clarity. Patricia Scales
