About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Shane, Rubrics are awesome! Students get to pregrade themselves when rubrics are shared with the students. Patricia Scales
Hi Richard, Great ways to ensure course requirements are made clear. Students need to know on Day 1 exactly what is expected of them. Patricia Scales
Hi Soneka, Bench marks are inspiring. Students love knowing that they are making progress. Patricia Scales
Hi Robert, Nice way to break the monotony to engage students in hands-on learning. Students need theory/lecture, but they really learn more by doing. Patricia Scales
Hi Rohit, Flashcards have proven to be a very powerful learning tool. Flash cards really help students retain information. Patricia Scales
Hi Paula, Yes, we all make mistakes! Admit your mistakes and move on. No one is perfect. Confess when you mess up. Patricia Scales
Hi Paula, Guest speakers are very motivating. Some students need to hear the same thing just from a different professional to help make certain things stick. Patricia Scales
Hi Robert, Nicely stated! Students need to know that the assignments they are doing are very meaningful, and we should follow up to ensure our students are grasping various concepts. We should care about our students enough to want to know how they are doing with the learning process. Patricia Scales
Hi Crystal, Great! These techniques are very effective! Students love it when they are challenged analytically. Patricia Scales
Hi Benjamin, It depends on the instructor. Everyone is different! Patricia Scales
