Cathy, Thank you for that Cathy, that is a great approach. By sharing your stories, it helps the student bond with you and makes them more comfortable to share their stories and challenges. Sheri Leach
Cathy, Since you are successful in getting students to open up to you, can you share what makes you successful? How do you begin a typical conversation with a student on this topic? Sheri Leach

Cathy, I agree that student interactions with industry professionals and successful alumni helps improve overall placement rates. These interactions can take various forms. Casual interactions such as having the speakers join the students for lunch provides a intimate atmosphere in which the students may feel more comfortable asking questions and will be rewarded with straight forward answers. Other functions like a panel of speakers will help provide students with different points of view or will help solidify a particular point. A great starting point would be to ask some of your go-to employers to speak to a class or ask… >>>

Stephanie , Setting clear expectations is one of the foundations of success. It is truly important for everyone to work with the same goal in mind. Partnering with other departments will help build on that foundation. Since a total campus environment is so critical for the success of our students everyone needs to work together. Can you please explain in more detail your Rules of Engagement meetings, how you put them together and why they work for you. Sheri Leach
Cathy, Do you find thAt most of your students are forthcoming about their barriers to employment? Do they share these willingly? Sheri Leach
Cathy, Great point! Our staff, and our students will sometimes tune us out or not take our comments seriously. This is because we often become "Mom or Dad". So bringing in employers and past grads to speak to instructors and students is an ideal way to get a point across. It is my belief that it doesn't matter who the student learns from, as long as they learn and feel inspired and confident. Sheri Leach
Cathy, I commend you and your organization for coming together to discuss and address issues affecting your employment rates. It is only when placement becomes a campus wide culture will an institution and their graduates be truly successful. Do you have any advice for those struggling to involve all campus departments on how to encourage and win their participation and support? Sheri Leach

Manuel, I am encouraged to hear that in your organization Career Services and Admissions work closely together. Institutions that provide a "total campus environment" where all departments work towards educating the students on employability factors have the most successful student employment outcomes. What makes this partnership so successful on your campus? Sheri Leach
Manuel, Do you have any best practices for hosting a job fair that you can share? Sheri Leach
