About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Charles, this is great & I've found this to be true also. They will engage with us & the material & the content much better if we break it up & don't fall back on lecture. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Jeremy, I don't think you are the lone wolf & I would agree with this. I've found that they, at first, might balk a little but really appreciate the stronger guidance. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
gary, this is definitely a challenge & in these situations we really must do all we can to encourage them & help them be successful. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
marla, these are great strategies as it provides the help the students need as well as showing them that we care & want to help. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Daniel, these are all great suggestions & one of the best ways to help them is to ease them into the more challenging reading assignments. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Daniel, yes to all of this & especially the point about brainstorming. This really is a skill that is very helpful for our students to learn as it will greatly benefit them throughout life. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Daniel, this is so true. I also believe that it helps my students with paying attention as they see that I am paying attention to them & the rest of the class. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
gary, yes, we do need to work hard to put our students at ease & make them feel ready to learn. I've found the better prepared I am, typically the more I can put my students at ease. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Diana, these are all great points highlighting the importance of audience analysis & adaptation. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Linda, yes the shared experiences are a great way for our students to borrow the knowledge & experience of others. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
